FIAT Dino Coupé - 1967

The Fiat Dino is a legend in itself. Many enthusiasts look at it rather as a Ferrari than a Fiat.
Fact is that in 1966 Enzo Ferrari needed the help of Fiat to be able to comply with the Formula 2 regulations - an engine block being built 500 times within 12 months. Agnelli entered into. And already 1967 the first Fiat branded Ferrari were delivered: the Dino-Spider (Design: Pininfarina) and a bit later also the Dino-Coupé (Bertone). Both disposed of a 2-litre-6-cylinder-engine which was designed for racing by Ferrari. With 4 overhead camshafts and 3 Weber double carburetors the motor reached 165 PS. Ferrari himself implanted the engine in the Dino 206 GT. Later the engine was increased to 2.4 litres displacement and was available for both the Fiat Dino and the Dino 246 GT. Subsequent in the Lancia Stratos the engine again came to honour.

Today the Fiat Dino is rarer as many a Ferrari - especially the open models a very diffcult to find.

By the way the name Dino derives from Enzo Ferrari's only son Alfredo fondly named Dino by him.
Aged 24 ravaged by disease Alfredo is involved in the construction of the V6 race engine. He dies on June, 30 in 1956. To his honour the 6 cylinder Ferrari, and also the Fiat models equipped with the identical motor, are called by his name.
