Coupé Fiat - 1994

Mass production of the vehicle based on the Tipo platform started at Pininfarina works, Turin.

Computer controlled assembly was avoided. All assembling, mounting and welding was done manually. Roughly 80 pieces left the construction site in the Grugliasco district daily.

Manufacture at Pininfarina

The first engines were the 16V and the 16V Turbo with 2.0 litres displacement and 139 bhp and 190 bhp respectively.
The origins of this famous engine could be traced back to the sixties to a construction of Aurelio Lampredi.
In Italian automotive industries Lampredi was one of the engineers in demand. He enginered innumerable units for Ferrari. His formula 1 engines of 1952 and 1953 gave the first two championships to Ferrari.
The twin cam four cylinder engine had appeared for the first time in the year 1966, in the models 124 Spider and 124 sports coupé, at that time with admittely giving a quite gentle 90 PS.
Models owning this twin cam engine, in more or less modified trim, are among others the Fiat 125, 131 Rally, 132, Argenta, Regata, Ritmo 105 & 125/130TC Abarth, Croma, Tipo, Lancia Thema, Lancia Beta and even Lancia Rally 037 (Volumex supercharged).
The engine was also used in Formula 3 in 1994 when Jörg Müller won the German Formula 3 championship on Dallara Fiat F394.
Engines similiar to the 16V Turbo went into action in the Lancia Delta Integrale, Hyena Zagato, Delta HPE 2.0 HF and Alfa Romeo 155 Q4. [Pictures]

The so-called "Plus” version had optional interior equipment. Included are leather trim, air conditioning and alloy wheels (15” at 16V, 16” at 16V Turbo).

In the first years official press/catalogue photos are published only in yellow or red paintwork respectively (to arouse connotations of Ferrari?).
