| FIAT 128 Coupé - 1972 Is it a Coupé or is it not? In 1969 Fiat introduced the 128 as follower of the 1100. For the first time in the history of the Italian brand the new model has front wheel drive with engine in cross direction. The sportive qualities of the 128 saloon induce Fiat to develop further versions of the 128. So in 1972 the 128 Coupé comes to market. In 1975 the conversion of the back happens for the benefit of a tailgate, out of it results the denomination 3P (treporte). The German car customers never went familiar with the quirky tail and the high purchase price. The lack of rust precaution in the 70s decimated the stock moreover. According to that they are very rare today. OBTW, the X 1/9 has got the same engine as the 3P 1300 though as mid engine concept. |
